Enrichment Programs
Chemdas is a VOLUNTARY, extra-curricular, motivational system which encourages the study of Beki'us, basic Torah knowledge. It is patterned and named after similar learning opportunities at other Yeshivos. The purpose of this project is to further enhance the child's love and knowledge of and abilities in Talmud Torah. Each child receives a Chemdas Handbook which contains almost EVERYTHING they need to study. There are minimum requirements (point totals) for each grade which are delineated in the handbook. The students are to study areas needed to reach the required numbers of points, thereby working towards prizes. A trip is planned for all youngsters who reach the highest 'rung' for their grade levels.
The entire school focuses on the study of Birchos Hanehenin (primarily blessings over food) post-Chanukah, pre-Tu'B'shevat. This study period culminates with a Berachos Bowl for Grades 1-3 and a Berachos Bee for grades 4-6.
The 3rd-6th graders participate in a Parsha-thon supporting Chai Lifeline. They receive pledges from family and friends for completing their parasha studies. This endeavor has raised significant sums, and our school has been honored at the Chai LiIfeline dinner.
This is a curriculum based on the Middos calendar established a number
of years ago by Mrs. Elisa Taub which is now published and sponsored by the Chofetz Chaim Heritage Foundation. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that it deals with four specific characteristics which change yearly and which are alternated, reviewed, and discussed in four week cycles. The BIG FOUR this year are: Being Dan LeChaf Zechus (Judging Favorably), Lashon Tov (Positive Speech), Vatranut (Giving In For Peace) and Kavod HaBeriyos (Respecting Your Fellow Man).
At set times during the year, children from each class are recognized at an awards assembly for exhibiting and for improving in the particular Middah on which we are concentrating on in the school.
