School Policies
Chazal tell us that our external actions and appearance directly affect our internal makeup. It is, therefore, essential that the young Ben/Bas Torah dress in a fashion which is neat, demonstrates personal pride and dignity, and is in accordance with the Torah's guidelines for Tznius, modesty. These standards create the atmosphere which is most conducive for our children's personal, academic, and religious growth. To facilitate the creation of this ambiance, the Torah School has established the following uniform dress requirements.
Uniforms for Boys
Boys in all classes are required to wear Kippos (no hats or caps during class) and Tzitzis. All shirts must be tucked in.
Boys in Grades 1-6
- Shirts - All shirts must be tucked in. (All buttons, with the exception of the top one, must be buttoned.)
a. Long / Short sleeve Oxford style (available through our vendor or any other vendor)
- White
- Light Blue
- Yellow (not gold)
b. Long / Short sleeve collared Polo shirt (not available through our vendor)
- Must have 2 or 3 buttons (no zippers)
- White
- Light Blue
- Yellow (not gold)
c. Long / Short sleeve Blue Stripe Oxford style (available only through our vendor)
2. Pants
a. Navy Blue or Black (available through our vendor or any other vendor)
- Straight or pleated
- Straight or cuffed bottom (no elastic cuffs)
- No more than the 2 standard back pockets and the 2 standard side pockets
- Standard zipper in the front
- No sweats, cargo pants, jeans, shorts, or corduroy
3. Shoes
a. Sneakers

c. No sandals, slippers, or slipper-like shoes (e.g. they must have a back)
d. No shoes or sneakers which transform into roller skates or any other object other than shoes
4. Socks
a. Black
b. Blue
c. White
5. Vest
a. Gray (available only through our vendor)
Uniform for Girls
Girls in Kindergarten must wear skirts or dresses, a blouse/top with a sleeve, shoes or sneakers, and socks.
1. Shirts/ Blouses ( All buttons, with the exception of the top one, must be buttoned)
a. Peter Pan collar blouse (3/4 or long sleeve only) (available through our or any other vendor)
- White

- Yellow (not gold)
b. Oxford collar blouse (3/4 or long sleeve only) (available through our or any other vendor)

c. Long sleeve Collared Polo shirt (not available through our vendor)
- Must have 2 or 3 buttons (no zippers)

d. White turtleneck to be worn under jumper, vest, or buttoned up blouse
Please make sure that no blouses/shirts are of sheer or tight-fitting material.
2. Skirts
Skirts must be sewn down several inches from the waist and pleated. No straight or A-line skirts allowed. The skirts must be long enough to cover the knee when sitting down. Absolutely no slits!!!

4. Shoes

c. No sandals, slides, clogs, slipper-like shoes, or sneakers that turn into skates or anything else!
d. No shoes or sneakers which transform into roller skates or any other object other than shoes
5. Socks - Knee socks or tights are preferred. Ankle socks are allowed, but they must reach the ankle. Footies or any foot covering not reaching the ankle are not allowed. Navy or white are the preferred colors for socks and tights.

7. No nail polish
Under all circumstances and for all grades, any inappropriate clothes or accessories (e.g. necklaces for boys) or those with logos, wording, or characters in questionable taste are unacceptable. The Headmaster may request that a child who is dressed inappropriately go home and change.
The Mesillas Yesharim emphasizes the idea that all of our external actions directly affect our inner makeup. We hope that, by coming to school in a dignified and modest manner, our students will fully feel the importance of Davening, learning Torah, and studying, and that this, in turn, will positively affect their attitudes and performances.
