Secular Curriculum

We underwrite our general secular curriculum with principles of balanced literacy and a differentiated instruction in all grades. This means that all areas of study, including mathematics, are infused with literacy principles. Our reading program focuses on a guided reading/writing approach with imbedded and explicit decoding instruction. We actively utilize literacy centers to incorporate active learning whenever possible.

Mathematics Curriculum

Our program involves a process approach to learning mathematics. We believe that children should think in quantities and proportion with numbers representing those concepts. When children truly understand the process of math, which is the manipulation of quantities, they can assign numerical values and engage in mathematical thinking. Our kindergarten focuses on a program entitled "Math Their Way" which focuses on process and application. All skills in our program are taught with the progression of the student's developmental readiness. On-going performance and written assessment determine the skill level. Throughout the curriculum, attention to the mathematics process is given high priority.
